We’ve just entered another year and we can already observe some post-Covid changes emerging in the tech world. Among many innovations, touchless technologies such as voice-activated assistants and Conversational AI are in the absolute spotlight. The previous year has already been hailed as the year of voice technology. The pandemic only strengthened the development of this area, showing all of us how reliable this part of AI proves to be. Let’s have a look at the voice recognition trends for 2021!

According to data, the voice recognition market is expected to reach $26.8 billion by 2025. This rapid development reflects just how big is the adoption of technology and devices that are equipped with it. After all, we first loved it so that it could grow so much. Everything indicates that voice tech will be (if it’s not already) our new tomorrow.

Opportunities for growth

We started relying on voice tech because it gives us faster results and the performance we need for our daily activities. Looking at the statistics, more than 50% of people who use voice search use this feature while driving a car when they need to find a location, text, or call someone without having to look for a phone. We use it also to control our homes, our devices and by multitasking, save time during a day. Thanks to technology, we can use convenient solutions that allow us to achieve things in a blink of an eye.

What’s more, the number of voice recognition apps we use today has been doubled. According to Google, 27% of the global population with access to the internet use voice search. In the US alone, voice-activated solutions are used by over 111 million people. That’s insane how we get along with the new functionality.

The bigger perspective is when we think about the impact it has on certain industries. The future of the speech and voice recognition market looks promising with opportunities in the automotive, banking, retail, healthcare, legal or educational sectors. Just look at the innovations proposed by some of the most promising voice tech startups. Our team also had a chance to add a brick to this by creating a platform with a built-in voice recognition feature for one of our clients.

Trends in voice recognition for 2021

This year we should expect nothing but even more advanced application of the technology and even smarter voice-activated assistance.

Voice-controlled shopping

Of course, it’s not something completely new as we know how AI and machine learning influence our online experience. But what we don’t know is how it will impact e-commerce. The projection is that by 2022, voice search for shopping needs will have turned into a $40 billion industry. This means we will use our voice to find the item we want and it will be enough (and much faster) to buy it.

Outbound calls and smart IVR

Call centers will soon undergo a transformation. Voice robots and chatbots have become effective to the point they can replace humans in performing repetitive tasks. The solutions are already available in the market but their adoption isn’t so big yet. When more companies recognize the efficiency of automated voice calls, we can expect changes not only in call centers but also in some sales departments. Live agents will be still there as assistance but they will have more time to focus on more creative parts of their work.

Optimizing business processes

Among voice recognition trends for 2021, we can definitely see more solutions to improve business processes. As the solutions become more customized and suited to business challenges we may expect their presence during meetings. In the previous article, we talked about a voice tech startup – Meetscribe that has already built the meeting assistant. Apart from that, we’ll see more options to integrate voice-control into our internal business systems like CRM and ERP.

Dynamic dialogues in games

With the development of Conversational AI, game design studios are able to take their characters to the next level. Dynamic dialogue is the one that is decided based on dynamic factors such as player’s choice or random selection. An example can be an NPC calling a player by their chosen name or class. Normally it takes a lot of effort to record a voice for each character of a game. Thanks to advancements in voice technology, developers will be able to use sophisticated neural networks to mimic human voices and build games with dynamic dialogues only.

One smart assistant for everything

With the growing number of voice-activated solutions, developers started thinking about smart integration that would allow one voice assistant to live simultaneously on a user’s phone, smartwatch, smart TV, etc. The idea to have one assistant for all of our devices is really cool and maybe the right approach considering how it would enhance the personalized experience. Of course, there are lots of challenges with voice recognition development but we’re on the right path to overcome them and deliver a better experience.

Summing up, there’s a lot to anticipate

Coming months and years will see not only improvements in voice technology but an expansion of it to nearly all areas of business and entertainment. The trends in voice recognition show that it will definitely become more present in our daily lives as technology becomes more human-like and can assist us the way we need. Adding to this the ever-growing advancement in AI, we have a powerful duo offering endless possibilities.
